Innovative New PEMF Device Can Heal Pain and Inflammation
Innovative New PEMF Device Can Heal Pain and InflammationDecember 12th, 2017 by Cindy Perlin
I first learned about the Oska Pulse at the annual conference of the Academy of Integrative Pain Management this past October. The Oska Wellness Company was exhibiting their new product, an innovative and very portable device that uses pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) to treat pain and edema. I was later offered a complementary device in exchange for a review.
The device was named Oska in honor of a koala named Oscar who had been badly burned in a wildfire. The koala was in terrible shape. His burns were not responding to treatment and despite being medicated, he was crying in pain. A friend of the vet owned a PEMF device and suggested they place it near the koala because it reduced pain. Within a day the koala stopped crying. In just a few days he started responding to treatment and a few months later he was able to be released back into the wild.
The science behind the device is that when cells are injured or have degenerated, they lose their electrical potential and are no longer able to exchange ions, causing inflammation and pain. Oska Pulse uses optimized PEMF to restore the electrical potential cells need to receive nutrients and oxygen, which stimulates cellular regeneration–relieving pain, and activating the body’s natural recovery process.
This technology has been in use for over 60 years and a significant body of research documenting its therapeutic effects exists. When a pulsing electromagnetic field comes near living tissue, that field penetrates unobstructed through tissue and generates electrical currents within. There is no need for wires or electrodes and no physical contact between the magnet and the body is necessary. Because there is no current flowing into the body, there is no associated pain with PEMF.
Studies of PEMF technology have shown that it accelerates bone repair and reduces pain from inflammation and surgical incisions. PEMF promotes tissue repair by increasing the availability of nitric oxide, which reduces inflammation, relaxes vascular smooth muscles and increases blood vessel formation. This helps to provide the cells with much needed nutrients and oxygen, resulting in improved tissue repair.
Until recently, PEMF equipment has been expensive, large and cumbersome and out of the reach for the average person. The Oska Pulse has changed that. It’s a safe, FDA listed, small, portable and affordable device that provides a specific sequence of pulsed magnetic fields over a 30 minute period. The device uses an intensity and combination of frequencies that have been shown to promote tissue repair and recovery as well as block pain.
The device is worn on or placed near the body. It does not need to make skin contact and has an 18” radius of effect. It is initially used multiple times a day for 30 minutes and over time the frequency of use can be decreased. You can use it while engaging in activities such as walking or doing chores or while sitting or lying down.
My own experience of the device has been quite positive. Although I have not been experiencing severe chronic pain recently, I have had several pain issues. For months I had been having a pain in my side that developed overnight while I was sleeping and was sometimes severe enough to wake me up. It was very painful and difficult to get out of bed and the pain did not subside until I had moved around quite a bit. After using the Oska Pulse for a couple of weeks that pain no longer wakes me up and is much milder, often barely noticeable when I get out of bed. In addition, I developed a bad cold while I was using the device and was coughing a great deal. Normally when that happens, after a couple of days my abdominal and chest muscles become so sore that it is excruciating to cough. That did not happen this time. Also, I had fallen hard in a parking lot last February and injured my shoulder. While it has been improving over time with various treatments, it was still painful sometimes, particularly with extended range of motion and when I lifted heavy things. That pain is now gone.
The list price of the device is $399. You can save $55 by using this link: LEARN MORE/BUY NOW
