This Congressional Briefing from 12/13/23 on Kratom included experts from the National Institue on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and Johns Hopkins. Their testimony dispels any notions that kratom is an opioid, that it is highly addictive or that it has caused amy fatalities. These experts indicate that kratom may be an effective pain reliever as well as a very useful substance for helping people get off of opioid, though they also indicate there is a lot that is not yet known about kratom's components and their effects.
