Biofeedback is the process of gaining greater awareness of many physiological functions primarily using instruments that provide information on the activity of those same systems, with a goal of being able to manipulate them at will. Biofeedback is a technique you can use to learn to control your body's functions, such as your heart rate. You're connected to electrical sensors that help you receive information (feedback) about your body (bio). This one technique can help you gain more control over these normally involuntary functions. It's called biofeedback, and the therapy is used to help prevent or treat conditions, including migraine headaches, chronic pain, incontinence, and high blood pressure. Biofeedback is a mind–body technique in which individuals learn how to modify their physiology for the purpose of improving physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Much like physical therapy, biofeedback training requires active participation on the part of patients and often regular practice between training sessions. Clinical biofeedback may be used to manage disease symptoms as well as to improve overall health and wellness through stress management training. :
Electrical Stimulation is a therapeutic approach that one applies electrical stimulation in managing muscle spasms and pain. It can help prevent atrophy and build strength in clients with injuries. It is also helpful in keeping muscles active especially after any type spinal cord injury or stroke. Providers attach electrodes on the client’s skin, causing the target muscles to contract. With electric stimulation, the client can maintain muscle tone and strength that would have otherwise wasted away due to lack of usage. Electric stimulation works by mimicking the natural way in which the body exercises its muscles. The electrodes attached to the skin deliver impulses that make the muscles contract. It is beneficial in increasing the patient’s range of motion and improves the circulation of the body. It is used in managing conditions like sprains, arthritis, back pain scoliosis and sciatica.
