HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE TECHNOLOGY
Scrambler therapy was developed by Italian Professor Giuseppe Marineo, a researcher and bioengineer and the founder and manager of Delta Research & Development. Delta R&D is the Bioengineering Research Center affiliated with Tor Vergata University in Rome.
He named the technology “Calmare,” the Italian word for soothe or ease.
To help our patients here in New Jersey, we specifically selected Professor Marineo’s scrambler therapy device (MC-5A), which is U.S. FDA 510(k)-cleared and European CE mark-certified as a non-invasive pain therapy device.
This technology is painless to undergo, has no side effects and requires no medication.
ABOUT CLINICAL DIRECTOR DR. MICHAEL COONEY
Since 2011, Dr. Cooney has personally treated hundreds of patients from the U.S. and around the world suffering from a range of treatment and medication-resistant neuropathic conditions. He specializes in helping people battling Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD). Dr. Cooney was also one of the first doctors to successfully help patients with pain and symptoms from shingles or Postherpetic Neuropathy (PHN). Dr. Cooney is one of only seven doctors in the United States who has earned certification as a Calmare provider. He regularly acts as a consultant for new doctors and healthcare providers who are introducing scrambler therapy to their own pain management and medical practices.
HOW DOES CALMARE WORK?
Patients are comfortably connected to the Calmare Pain Therapy Treatment® device via small electrodes (similar to those used in EKG and other medical procedures) placed on the patient’s skin at the pain site/s. The device then sends a very low current of electrical stimulation through the skin and nerve fibers, which carries a “no pain” signal to the brain, essentially overriding the previous pain signal.camare foot image with leads In some cases, pain relief has been reported after the first treatment, but each patient’s case is unique. During the 35-minute daily treatments over a two-week period, the patient’s pain steadily decreases to allow the patient to resume normal daily activities and enjoy a rich quality of life that had previously been eroded by living with chronic pain.
