Description of Practice: Mind Body Connection, Inc

At Mind Body Connection Inc. and Center For Health Integration, we are dedicated to improving health and well being through increased self-awareness in mind and body. Increased awareness will allow you to  develop skills that will put you on a path to feeling more in control of whatever your life has in store for you.  We believe emotional, mental, and physical factors can contribute to our overall sense of well-being or distress. By utilizing practical, skills-oriented, and evidence-based interventions such as mindfulness, biofeedback, cognitive-behavioral therapy, compassion towards self and others, NeuroMeditation, virtual reality and other tools, we help you find your best possible self.

We specialize in working with anxiety, depression, insomnia, and various psychophysiological disorders such as headaches, chronic pain and illness, high blood pressure, and gastrointestinal disorders. We hope to help you effectively use your energy and resources towards things you can control. Using healthy coping mechanisms to respond to your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, you will learn to manage and move beyond challenges that seem out of your control. Learning to focus on a healthier you will help you get the most out of life.

    Our Approach

These principles are central to our approach:

    • Evidence based integrative approach: current research available in psychology and behavioral medicine, in conjunction with alternative practices such as mindfulness, relaxation, yoga and meditation, Virtual Reality, Biofeedback, and Neuromeditation.
    • Theoretical orientation: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic and Relational therapy, Mindfulness, and Positive psychology.
    • Therapeutic style: provide support and practical feedback to help you manage personal life challenges and live more skillfully.
    • Integrative and collaborative: We try to work collaboratively with your primary care provider to develop a highly personalized treatment approach tailored to you.
    • Initial Evaluation: During the initial evaluation we will identify possible treatment goals and discuss treatment options that work best to achieve your goals.

    Groups and Specialized treatment options:

    • 8 Week Therapeutic Yoga program : This yoga program directly targets stress due to chronic medical conditions and dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors that negatively impact overall health. In the 8 weeks yoga program you learn specifically to reduce stress and gain control through understanding dysfunctional behaviors and learn coping skills to manage and positively improve quality of life.
    • Neuromeditation: Neuromeditation is the systematic application of scientific, brain-based principles for understanding and practicing meditation. Given the several options available in meditation, it can be categorized by the way attention is directed and based on our intentions for what we want to gain and the impact on our brain, Dr. Tarrant has identified 4 main categories: Open Heart, Focus, Quiet Mind, and Mindfulness meditations.
      • Focus meditation is the voluntary control of our attention and cognitive processes. This style improves focus, concentration, and reduces distractibility.
      • Open Heart: helps with evoking positive emotional states such as love and compassion. This form of meditation allows us to increase empathy, generosity, and ability to walk in another person’s shoes.
      • Quiet Mind: This practice leads to an open awareness. It helps with reducing internal self-talk and cultivating a state of restful awareness.
      • Mindfulness meditation: The ability for dispassionate, non-evaluative awareness of ongoing experience. Helps with reducing internal judgement and letting go.

BiofeedbackBiofeedback is another evidence based, non-invasive and non-pharmaceutical therapeutic intervention. It helps individuals learn to manage stress through interactive mind/body techniques with on screen biofeedback training that enables individuals to monitor their stress response and learn to manage it through relaxation, breathing, and mindfulness. It allows individuals to learn to effectively self-regulate.

Virtual Reality Therapy via Psious: VR therapy has been extensively studied for more than 15 years and it has been found to be effective in treating mental health conditions especially anxiety and specifically phobias. It's level of clinical effectiveness is higher than the traditional exposure therapy, and also as effective as in vivo exposure. It is used in conjunction with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which is a great addition to CBT as it enhances and improves the treatment of specific phobias. We have seen great improvements in people with fear of flying, social anxiety, fear of needles to name a few. If this is an interest, and you would like more information please let your provider know.
