Description of Practice: Holistic Physical Therapy - Barbara Rabin, DPT

*New options for treatment with Holistic Physical Therapy through Telehealth - TelePT visits as of March 31, 2020 for all of states of Ohio and Florida.*

Barbara practices physical therapy in her private outpatient integrative physical therapy practice in Cleveland, Ohio, helping people to work through movement and health issues so that they can get back to whatever they love to do. She strives to empower each person to learn how to fix themselves by heavily emphasizing patient education and self-treatment.

She attended University of Miami Miller School of Medicine School of Physical Therapy for her master of science in physical therapy and became a licensed physical therapist (1990), a licensed athletic trainer (1991), a certified 200-hour yoga teacher with Jivasara yoga (2008), a 700+ hours professional yoga therapist (PYT) through Professional Yoga Therapy Institute (PYTI) (2016), a Usui Holy Fire Karuna Reiki Master (2017), and most recently obtained her doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) from AT Still University in June of 2018.

Barbara is an avid runner, cyclist, and yogi who has been able to continue to stay very active well into her 50's with her self knowledge of how to heal and rehabilitate any injury.

Common conditions could be any joint or musculoskeletal pain, fascial pain, or pre or post-surgical rehabilitation. Treating these conditions could involved the use of traditional physical therapy modalities and methods. Myofascial release, CranioSacral and therapeutic massage are her most common manual techniques used, however she is skilled in several other manual therapies.

She has extensive knowledge of nutrition and of the importance of balancing the gut microbiome in the healing of inflammatory conditions.

She practices following the biospychosocial wellness model that looks at the whole person instead of just attending to a diagnosis and condition. This method allows for a personalized functional movement assessment (FMA) as taught by the PYTI method at http://www.proyogatherapy.org and uses Ayurveda. Through this method, Barbara provides individualized personalized care that maximizes the effect of a visit often allowing less visits needed to heal a condition.

    Testimonials
I started seeing Barbara after experiencing several chronic running injuries. I had been battling plantar fasciitis, hip pain and low back pain. Barbara has helped me through a combination of physical therapy, yoga, myofascial release, and strength training. I had been to other physical therapists and doctors before, but no one had has helped me as the way Barbara has. She is the most patient, understanding and encouraging practitioner. With her help and guidance, I have become stronger, run farther and achieved goals that I never had believed were possible. Barbara believed in me and gave me the confidence to believe in myself. She has given me tools to continue to keep my body and mind healthy. Working with her has completely changed my outlook on exercise, health, and wellness. Julie B.

I have known Barbara Rabin for over 20 years. She started working with a group of the neighbors by setting up weekly sessions with total body exercises. The routines she provided I still to this day continue to use.
Most recently Barbara really helped me get through two accidents. One is when I broke the 5th metatarsal bone in my right foot. The other was a skiing accident when I tore my MCL in my left knee. The broken foot was the worst of the two. It was summer and I am an avid golfer. The surgeon placed me in a non-weight bearing cast for 3 months. I couldn’t drive or get around without crutches or a scooter. It was a disaster as far as I was concerned. Barbara set me up first with an exercise routine I could do at home which included cardio and strength training during the time I was immobilized. The exercises helped keep me in shape and mentally up beat!. The cardio part involved learning how to strap my bad foot onto a stationary bike. I was able to push down on the petal with the good foot and pull up with bad foot. She also taught me how to go up and down stairs with my crutches. Other than not being able to play golf or drive, I got around fairly well I even went swimming with a water proof cast protector and traveled to Europe on vacation. After the cast was removed, she helped me with strengthening exercises to get my mobility and balance back. I am happy to say that my foot is probably in better shape now than before I broke it.
The second accident involved my MCL. I didn’t have any surgery, the doctor just stuck me in an awkward brace. Barbara helped me again with strengthening exercises. I pretty much ditched the brace and used a less invasive brace to hold my knee in place. I’m happy to say I was right back out skiing the very next season and have suffered no loss of mobility.
Barbara is creative and thinks practically about what you need to do on a daily basis to get around. I have an exercise routine I follow everyday and regularly go to bar classes and yoga. I am motivated to stay in shape as I am quite active. Barbara will always keep you safe, use her creativity to keep you active and motivated. Her experience in being an athlete and physical therapist have really given terrific insight into helping people of all ages to stay active. I would never hesitate to use her again and again if needed and would highly recommend her to anyone.
I wish her great success in her career as she always strives for improvement. She will always give you the time you need and prepare you to be the most active you can be. Linda O.
